This year’s track works finished

p_20161022_134733

We completed the track works, which were planned for this year. We repaired the most worn-out parts which called for quick replacement of sleepers. Repairs would not be possible without the support of City Council of Skierniwice (donation of 6500 PLN based on own capital 1650 PLN), which allowed us to buy new parts and sleepers. The repairs itself were carried out by the PARE members with major help provided by the participants of Technical Workshops supported by Bank Zachodni WBK Foundation.

Further repairs of track № 59

Taking into consideration our experience from the previous years, we decided to avoid any heavy track works during the most severe heat. Autumn seemed the best time in the year for such type of activity. Benefiting from the mild weather of early October, we continued replacing deteriorated sleepers in track № 59. Works, carried out mostly by the participants of Technical Workshop, were supported by the City Council of Skierniewice and Bank Zachodni WBK Foundation. Track reparirs will be continued in upcoming Autumn weekends.

Technical Education Workshops

Starting from April, the youth in the age 15 to 26 years can participate in the Technical Education Workshops organized in our Shed. They are a part of the project Technical Education as a promotion of volunteering for railway heritage in Skierniewice Engine Shed supported by the BZ WBK Fund. The participants of the workshops can gain new experiences while helping in the usual activities of the Shed under supervision of PARE members.

Even trivial but vital task, not directly connected to rolling stock renovation, like e.g. preparing new exhibition fences on 23rd July, are a great opportunity to teach young people basics of metalworking and safe arc welding.

wet2016_0

We have a new offer directed to youth in age from 15 to 26 years. Thanks to the support of the project Technical Education as a promotion of volunteering for railway heritage in Skierniewice Engine Shed by BZ WBK Foundation young people can once again take part in common project. By learning new technical skills, participants will help in rescue of unique historical railway stock. A great convenience for participants of the project will be the refund of costs of travel to and from Skierniewice.

We start at the turn of April and May. We will inform in advance about the precise dates of meetings and their topics. We can already tell that except the practical activities, we plan to conduct lectures regarding the outline of railway history and methods of restoration of historical rolling stock. A technical training in theory and practice will be performed during the actual renovation works. This will include metalworking, carpentry and painting. We especially put emphasis on teaching the safety rules of power tools usage.

Despite there are still two month to the first session of the Workshop, we already encourage all interested to contact us at wolontariat@psmk.org.pl.
