After Railway Night of Museums

img_5937

Traditionally, a Railway Night of Museums took place in Engine Shed on 14th May. Like in the previous years, the event in the Shed was part of the city-wide event. The participants could travel between different facilities opened for visitors on that night with a special free-of-charge bus prepared by City Council. It is worth mentioning that when we started in 2010, we were the only cultural institution in Skierniewice open to the public during the Night of Museums.

This year’s edition was a logistic challenge mostly due to the very random weather. Most of the previous nights were usually organized outside, but this time we decided to prepare it indoors. We took care for interesting illumination which underlined the railway atmosphere of the shed. The major part of the main roundhouse was open to the public so even the large number of visitors did not prevented one from comfortable sightseeing. Despite the soggy weather, during the 4 evening hours we were visited by over 680 guests!

More subsidies for reconstruction of roundhouse roof

Hala rewizyjna - nowe poszycie

In a major undertaking, like running a historical engine shed, there is no stop in applying for new subsidies. During last days, we were informed that Conservationist Office of Łódź Voivodeship reserved the amount of 25000 PLN for repairs of another area of roof in the main roundhouse. At the moment we are completing the documentation required to finalize and sign up the agreement. The main aim of this year’s works is to complete the reconstruction of the roof on this building and we still need resources to cover the cost of works above two last stands.

We would also like to encourage you to support us with 1% of income tax and donations paid directly to our account. The money will increase the amount of so called own assets and simultaneously increases our chances in applying for more subsidies.

After Zabrze Fairs

dsc_0328

From 14th to 16th April 2016 we took part in 8th International Fairs of Industrail and Underground Tourism on the invitation of City Council of Zabrze. The fairs took place in the exhibition hall at Matejki Street 6. We were among the representatives of organizations taking care of post-industrial objects open for public. With many of them we already cooperate, but the fairs were a good opportunity to make new acquaintances which may result in interesting, common projects.

Organizers of the fairs prepared many attractions for participants, ex. the conference New Opening for Touristics – Intangible Industrial Heritage or the evening banquet in original conference room placed in the old bathhouse of Queen Luiza mining gallery. The biggest attraction was undoubtedly the sightseeing of the new touristic route Level 355 in historical mine Guido.

Thank you very much for invitation and see you again next year!
