On Saturday, 3^rd May, from 11:00 to 15:00 we would like to invite you to the Open Days when one can familiarize with the history of Skierniewice’s Engine Shed and its collection. The tours are led by the guide dressed in the historical railway uniform. This year a surprise awaits the visitors – the lengthened sightseeing route inside the biggest building in the engine shed complex – the roundhouse from 1862-1942 where much of the PARE rolling-stock collection is placed. The admission to the larger portion of the roundhouse was possible thanks to the extensive roof repairs sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Łódź Voivodship’s Office and the assets from 1% of income tax.

Except the collection inside the roundhouse, visitors can see other exhibitions:

• steam engines tools and maintenance equipment,
• railway workshop with old machine tools still in working order,
• smithy with original equipment,
• railway traffic safety and signal box equipment.

Visiting groups enter at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00.

Together with the Photographic Team Łódź, we would like to invite you to the plein-air photographic event in Skierniewice’s Shed. In order to take part in the event, please subscribe via e-mail providing participant’s name, surname and contact phone. Subscription lasts to 23^rd April. Each participant has to acknowledge the sightseeing rules. Remember to take your personal ID for participation verification.

Our search for an entrepreneur, who could support the repairs of points № 128, has ended successful. A producer of railway joints and track parts – Śrubena-Unia S.A. from Żywiec – has offered us a batch of 400 track joining parts.

We have launched first of this year’s repairs funded from the public assets. As we informed several weeks ago, City Council of Skierniewice has donated 8000PLN for overhaul of set of points № 128 in track № 59. Repairs assume complete replacement of all the decaying ties. New ones have been already delivered on 28^th March by the railway ties manufacturing company from Czeremcha.

Works will be performed only by the volunteers and members of PARE. Repairs have been divided into stages resulting from the construction of the points, ie. into sections between neighboring rail joints. First stage required complete disassembling of more than a half of the points – on Saturday, 29th March, we removed side rails and blades. Next was the removal of completely falling apart ties. In the evening, we sorted the rail screws – about 60% have rusted away and cannot be reused. Because of the tight budget, we are now in search of a producer or seller, who would be eager to donate or provide a discount on purchase of 350 pieces of screws of type P49.

As for now, only the old ballast needs to be removed and we can start lying new ties and reassembling of rails. After that we can take care of the remaining section of points. Repairs are  to be continued through April and March, accordingly to the weather conditions. Any help will be appreciated. We would also like to encourage you to support the overhaul with 1% of the income tax.

With regret we would like to inform about the death of our colleague and volunteer of PARE, Andrzej Stypiński. Andrzej was retired officer of Polish Army. A great passion of his was 3D modeling. He was responsible for completing part of the shed’s building documentation, making the renovation of the Engine Shed possible. Except that, he was in the midst of the preparation of CG visualization of the Engine Shed’s buildings. His early death (Andrzej was 62 years old) has spoiled our plans to present in June his work to the public.

Funeral mass will take place on Saturday (29^th march) at 13.00 in Garrison Church in Skierniewice (funeral procession start at 12.00 from cemetery chapel near Strobowska Street 19).

Several weeks long preparations of a lengthened sightseeing route inside the roundhouse are nearly finished! Beginning May, we would like to invite you to visit the route which now reach more than a half of the length of the roundhouse. Lengthening of the route was possible thanks to the funds of the Łódź Voivodship’s Conservationist and 1% donation from income tax.

Among the vehicles, which will be available during the sightseeing, will be steam engine class Ty2-1407, narrow gauge engine Las 1984 and diesel engine class SP30-218.

Depending on the available resources and pace of the roof’s repairs, we are going to make further vehicles accessible to the visitors.
