This year among the many attractions available in the Engine Shed, our guests can visit a photography exhibition Railways in Skierniewice – The Engine Shed in the photography by Zbyszek Gradowski. The author of the exhibition is a close friend of our association and for many years documents on film the life of the Shed. He is also an enthusiast of the history of Skierniewice with the focus on the town’s brewing industry.

An official opening of the exhibition will take place in the main roundhouse during the Open Day on 4^th May at 12 PM. The exhibition will be open to the public till the end of this year’s season.

The long awaited external renovation of class Ls60-143 has kicked off in the early April. Our main shunting engine was still wearing an old coat of paint that might have been satisfactory for its previous owner but is highly inaccurate for a historical exhibit in the Skierniewice Shed.

Our first job was to remove all big and easy to dismantle parts like engine cowl, exhaust cover and multiple doors to the engine compartment. Parts will be later sanded and primed for further repainting. To avoid losing or damaging headlights, windscreens and other small parts were removed and stored in a safe place. The chassis of the engine will also require removing the old paint and grime, in which we will surely require a professional assistance.

Several years ago, alerted by the poor state of track network on the premises of the Shed, we started the repairs of the most degraded sections. Thanks to the support of the City of Skierniewice, we are continuing this effort also this year. In March we disassembled the rails in tracks № 14 and 15 in front of the roundhouse. At the beginning of April we could remove the remains of the old ballast. Soon we will resurface the track bed and lay a fresh layer of ballast, after which we start putting new concrete ties in place.

On 2^nd April the snowplough of type Björke has left Skierniewice Engine Shed. The vehicle’s owner, Station Museum (former Museum of Railways) asked us to store it back in 1995 for the time of rolling stock relocation and the celebrations of 150 years of railways in Warsaw. Due to the latest changes of the status of the museum, the snowplough will be moved to the Museum’s Division in Sochaczew, where it will be finally registered as an historical object and hopefully undergo a much needed renovation.

Some time ago we mentioned that we are going to overhaul our main shunting vehicle – diesel class Ls60-143. As the majority of the bodywork will be disassembled and the main framework immobilized to carry out the maintenance, we needed a replacement. For this purpose, we choose class Ls40-4544, which so far was sealed in a storage. We have one more class Ls40 shunting engine – number 4572 – which underwent some refurbishment, but due to the general wear of the gearbox we would like to save it from shunting work.

Ls40-4544 was unsealed, the engine went through the mandatory check-up and replacement of all lubricants and the cooling liquid. After that, the engine made its first steps in years on the tracks of the shed.

The enthusiasts of the diesel vehicles from our association took advantage of the warmer winter days to complete a thorough check-up of the engine and electric circuits of the line maintenance vehicle class SR71-04. On 2nd March, after small repairs and replacing missing parts, it was possible to start the engine and test out the pneumatic installation. Our aim is to bring the vehicle back to full operation and present it in motion, at least on the premises of the Shed.

At the beginning of February, the President of the city Skierniewice announced the results of a financing contest for the non-government organisations. We are happy to report, that our project to replace the ties in the tracks of the shed will be supported with the amount of 16 800 PLN. This year we want to re-lay the tracks № 14 and 15 between the turntable and the roundhouse. Start of the works – beginning of March.

That’s not the end of happy news. We are a couple of steps form finalizing a sponsorship agreement for the renovation of one of the vehicles. More details to follow.

All these financial helps requires a guarantee from our side in a form of the own capital. This is why we would like to again ask you to support us with your 1% of the income tax. To complete this, remember to indicate our organization as the recipient of the 1% by providing our KRS number 0000216091.

Due to the changes in filling out the tax reports (PIT forms) and moving them to the podatki.gov.pl platform, we would like to provide you a short guide on how to support the Skierniewice Engine Shed with 1% of the income tax.

After accessing the podatki.gov.pl service, choose Twój e-PIT (Your ePIT). To authorize, you use your Personal or Tax number (PESEL or NIP supplemented with a birth date) and an amount from selected field of the last year’s form. You can also authorize by using a trusted profile issued by the tax office.

The information regarding the donation of 1% of income tax to the public benefit organisation can be found on the main screen of the ePIT service. It’s worth mentioning that it is automatically filled in with the organisation chosen the last year. The 1% is automatically calculated from the tax information present in the form.

In case you donate the 1% for the first time, you have to

• choose from the KRS register the PARE number 0000216091,
• optionally, provide a specific aim of the donation,
• optionally, agree to provide the information about the donor to the receiving organisation.

If you would like to change the receiving organisation to PARE, you have to:

• choose the option “Zmieniam organizację” (I’m changing the organisation),
• choose from the KRS register the PARE number 0000216091,
• optionally, provide a specific aim of the donation,
• approve the modification.
