To keep our earlier promise, we would like to invite all enthusiasts of photography for yet another photographic event, during which one can record on film or memory card the surroundings of Engine Shed without the interfering crowd of tourists. The event will take place on Saturday, 17^th October from 12AM to 3PM.

On 1^st October 1845 a first scheduled train of Warsaw-Vienna Railroad has reached Skierniewice. On 3^rd October, together with President of City Skierniewice and The Association of Transportation Engineers we celebrated the round 170^th anniversary of this important event in Skierniewice’s history.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing track works on the neighboring railway station which temporarily cut the Shed off of the rest of line, many attractions was impossible to be executed. With regret we had to cancel the historical train with real steam engine or the exhibition of the contemporary rolling stock. Nevertheless, we decided to change the nature of the event to a more family-oriented. There were plenty of attractions for the youngest, those older and the oldest.

The Shed was open to the public from 11AM, but the official opening took place on 12AM with participations of

• Jarosław Chęcielewski, the Deputy President of City Skierniewice,
• Dorota Przybyła, vicepresident of The Association of Transportation Engineers,
• Judyta Kurowska-Ciechańska, president of PARE.

We were also honored to visit other notable guests: Vicemarshal of Parliament – Mrs. Elżbieta Radziszewska, Deputy Dorota Rutkowska, the President of the branch of the Monuments Protection Office in Łódź – Mrs. Katarzyna Starecka and many other representatives of Voivodship, City offices and the companies from railway transportation branch.

After the official part, one could listen to the concert of a City’s Brass Band conducted by Szczepan Bieszczad or taste the special anniversary cake.

Of course, there were many other attractions awaiting the 742 guests, who decided to visit us on this day. Everybody could find something interesting for themselves – vintage cars…

… and those contemporary, in service on the railway.

The promotional stand of Łódź Agglomeration Railway caused a furore among the youngest guests. Thanks to the model shop Loko-Model, visitors could also see how a digitally controlled railway models work and company Thales Polska sp. z o.o. gave a presentation of the modern signals.

There would be no event in Shed without the traditional sightseeing inside the roundhouse or the exhibition of signaling devices. There were also two new exhibitions to visit: “Paper heritage of Warsaw-Vienna Railroad in its 170^th Anniversary” by Paweł Mierosławski and “Steam shortens distances” by Aneta Majak and Andrzej Paszke.

The event was concluded with an artistic part performed by Paragraf 22 from Skierniewice and Polish country music star Michał Lonstar with Colorado Band.

We are happy to report that the Marshal of Łódź Voivodship – Mr. Witold Stępień took over the honourable patronage of the „Birthday of WVR”.

We have also broaden the schedule– the following companies decided to take part in the event:

• Thales Polska sp. z o.o. which will present its modern signaling devices.

We would like to encourage all those from outside of Skierniewice to visit us by train – Przewozy Regionalne are offering to the visitors of „Birthday of WVR” a special deal – one can return to his departure point using their one-way ticket to Skierniewice with a special stamp (to be obtained at the entrance to the Shed).

Expecting the large number of motorized visitors and due to the lack of parking space in the nearest proximity of the shed, we would like to ask you to leave you cars at the parking lot near the railway station (only 300m from the entrance to the Shed).

To fulfill the chronicler duty, we would like to note that during the Skieniewice’s Holiday of Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables, which took place on 19^th and 20^th of September, we were visited by the dazzling number of 1236 guests. It was one of the rare cases when we needed to increase the frequency of sightseeing groups from 1 hour to 30 minutes. This year special open days were also connected with 23^rd European Days of Heritage (Saturday and Sunday) and 14^th Days of Public Transportation (Sunday).

The Friday before the Holiday of Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables is traditionally reserved for the youngest enthusiasts of railways. On this day, fulfilling the wishes of teachers, we organize a Special Open Day for Schools. This year, on 18^th September, we invited the pupils of elementary schools from Skierniewice and outside to visit us. During the one-hour long unconventional classrooms children could sightsee the interior of the Engine Shed and learn about the safety on the railway area and railway crossings. For many of them it was a unique opportunity to be so close to the railway vehicles and devices. Each visiting group could then decorate the surface of the main yard of the Shed with colorful chalk drawings.

The classrooms in Shed were attended by 267 children. An extra group of 39 pupils visited us the next week.

The first Open Day in September is past us. On the first Saturday of September (5^th September) we were visited by 195 guests. We would already like to invite you to the next Open Days which will take place in two weeks during the Skierniewice’s Holiday of Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables. Soon we will also announce the special Open Days for schools. The details will be published soon on our website and our Facebook profile.
